Your Pet’s Surgery Day: What to Expect
To help your morning go as smoothly as possible, please review our check-in and discharge process below.
Arrival & Check-In
Please arrive during the following windows to ensure we can efficiently prepare your pet for their surgery:
-
Dogs: 7:00 to 8:00 AM
-
Cats: 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM
Upon arrival, please text (719) 419-9393 and stay in your car with your pet. You will receive a confirmation text with requested procedures to confirm and further instructions. Keeping pets in the car with their owners reduces stress for patients and clients alike and helps keep reactive animals calmer prior to surgery.
Vaccination records: If you have not uploaded your pet’s vaccination records prior to your appointment, please bring them with you the day of surgery.
Pre-Surgery Exam:
After we confirm services, we will text you to bring your pet into the clinic. You will be met by one of our veterinary assistants who will complete pre-operative questions before taking your pet to the Doctor for a brief pre-surgical exam. You will be free to leave the clinic at that point. We operate on a first-come, first-serve basis, and our goal is to be as thorough and efficient as possible.
-
Dogs will enter through the front door (South facing)
-
Cats and Rabbits will enter through the side door (West facing). The technician will take your cat /rabbit in its carrier, and you will be free to leave the clinic at that point. A Note for Cat Owners: We utilize one dedicated, quiet exam room for cats to minimize their stress. They will remain in their carrier until they are moved directly to their surgical kennel. Following surgery and recovery they will be returned to their carrier prior to pick-up.
If we find a health concern that requires a consultation with the Doctor, we will contact you via phone after the examination. In most cases, we are still able to move forward with the surgery that day but we will discuss this with you. If you do choose to proceed with surgery, we will ask you to sign a High Risk Waiver which we can email to you.
Microchip Verification
During the exam, we will scan your pet for a microchip. If you do not have proof of registration, we will contact the microchip company to verify that the chip is registered in your name. We will not do surgery on any microchipped animal unless we can confirm your ownership of that animal. Contacting microchip companies can sometimes cause significant delays. Having your registration paperwork ready at check-in helps speed up this process!
Going Home (Pick-Up Times)
Following completion of surgery and recovery, you will receive a text that your pet if finished and an email with post-operative instructions. We will also send a request for payment if you wish to pay via invoice prior to arriving at the hospital (greatly expedites shortened pick up times!).
Here are the times we ask that you pick up your pet:
-
Dogs 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM
-
Cats/Rabbits: 3:30 to 4:30 PM
Note, we no longer keep female cats or any animals in the clinic overnight so please plan your schedule accordingly. If you have any further questions on post-operative instructions, we can review them upon pick up. They will also be posted on this website to help during your pets recovery and healing period.
Thank you for your patience and for trusting us with your pet’s care, we look forward to seeing you!
