Hamlett Spay & Neuter Clinic

Your choices for post-operative protection include an e-collar, an inflatable neck donut collar or a surgical suit (only recommended for females). At Hamlett we can provide you with a rigid e-collar. Inflatable collars and surgical suits are available in pet supply stores and online.

Please watch this video from the ASPCA Spay/Neuter Alliance with helpful instructions on immediate post-operative care for your pet.

The time immediately following your pets surgery is extremely important to their healing and recovery. Please follow the post-operative instructions you were given at pick-up time.
-
check incision daily
-
Restrict all activity for the first 7 to 10 days
-
Feed their normal diet
-
Absolutely NO licking or chewing at incision. This is the #1 reason we see animals for post-operative complications. If you are not able to be with your pet, it must be confined and have some form of protection from chewing/licking (e-collar, inflatable collar, surgical suit).
-
Give all medication as directed, NO human medication.
-
Lethargy/tiredness is normal the evening and day following surgery
-
Some animals may have vomiting and diarrhea secondary to the anesthetics used. This should go away within 24 to 48 hours after surgery day.

If you have concerns regarding your pet after their surgery, you can contact us during regular business hours (7:30 to 4:30 Tuesday through Friday) at (719) 475-1800.
